 Yep- “Wedding Vows” Those two little words are guaranteed to bring butterflies to your tummy- a sense of excitement for most, a little trepidation for some, and a stab of sheer panic mixed in for others! Please don’t worry yourself- we got this! So, let’s talk about your wedding vows- not to be confused with vowels 😉 a VOW is a solemn promise, VOWELS are learned in English classes (remember a, e, i, o, u?) The two questions I get asked most are “Can we write our own Vows?” and “Do we have to write our own Vows?” The short answers are Yes & No.... …… When you marry in Australia under the Marriage Act 1961, there are some legal words you must state out loud in the hearing of your witnesses and the celebrant (that’s the bit that actually makes you “married”) You don’t have to say anything more if you really don’t want to. However, most couples take the opportunity to make some personal promises to each other as well. It’s your day, so you want to take the time to make it truly memorable for each other and preparing some special, well chosen and meaningful words will create a lifetime memory for your beloved. You can write your own personal vows from scratch if you want. You can make them quite individual- not the same words your partner uses. You can get a little help from my vows cheat sheet if you need some ideas to get you started. Or you can choose from sample words on the cheat sheet if you find something there that already works for you. You can research on the Net for ideas, you can ask for help from a friend if you need back up.
